Dr. Catherine deVries Pediatric Training Program

During our February 28, 2026 fundraiser in Salt Lake City, Utah, IVUmed announced the establishment of a new initiative aimed at significantly increasing access to quality pediatric urological care in sub-Saharan Africa.

The Dr. Catherine deVries Pediatric Urology Training Program will focus on supporting efforts in both East and West Africa to build fellowship training programs for pediatric urology. Through its Dr. Pieter deVries Pediatric Scholarship fund, IVUmed has helped support fellowship training for five urologists in sub-Saharan Africa at the University of Cape Town. This new initiative aims at bringing fellowship training centers directly to West Africa and the region of East, Central, and Southern Africa.

Inspired by the visionary leadership of IVUmed’s Founder, Dr. Catherine deVries, our new training program bearing her name will include multiple pediatric urology surgical workshops each year at each partner site. Virtual lectures, consultation, and case conferences will be held between workshops. Our volunteer experts will help our global partners build training programs that will better meet the enormous need for pediatric urological care in sub-Saharan Africa.
