Urologic Oncology Workshop in Kumasi, Ghana
October 30 – November 3, 2023

IVUmed in partnership with Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital will be conducting a Urologic Oncology Workshop October 30 – November 3 in Kumasi, Ghana and we need your support!

Despite being a country that offers universal health care, did you know that there are only 50 urologists in Ghana supporting a population of 32 million people?  IVUmed began its work in Ghana in 2002, focusing on pediatric urology. Since the onset of our virtual lecture series in 2020, IVUmed volunteers have also presented 15 Virtual Visiting Professor lectures to our colleagues in Ghana.

For this trip, IVUmed will be partnering with urologists at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi, Ghana.

Team members for this workshop include team leader, Dr. Ben Davies, Urologic Oncologist, and team members, Dr. Keith Kowalczyk, Urologic Oncologist, Dr. Daisy Obiora, UroOnc Fellow, Dr. Bradley Mason, Resident and Dr. Patrick Probst, Resident Scholar.  The team will be conducting lectures and training seminars to healthcare providers and medical trainees as well as providing life altering surgeries and care to those in need.

IVUmed’s origins are rooted in the goal of increasing access to urologic oncology care by growing the local urologic oncology workforce.  With experts like Drs. Davies, Kowalczyk, Obiora, Mason and Probst, and partners like Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital our hope is to build healthcare capacity in Ghana so any and every person with urologic issues can access care in their home communities.

Your support will help us continue with our mission of increasing access to quality urologic care worldwide.

International Volunteers in Urology (IVUmed) is a nonprofit with a 26-year history of closing the global urologic health equity gap by providing urologic medical care, education, training, and research mentorship to low resource areas globally.  We provide medical and surgical education to physicians and healthcare providers and medical treatment to thousands of children and adults.  Our mission is to make quality urological care available worldwide.
