Adult Reconstructive Surgery Workshop in
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
April 17-22, 2023

IVUmed in partnership with First Central Hospital of Mongolia will be conducting an Adult Reconstructive Surgery Workshop April 17-22, 2023 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and we need your support!

Urethral stricture disease treatment in low resource areas is complex.  Complicated presentations, limited subspecialty training and lack of specialty instruments, all contribute to poor outcomes.  Our model of collaborating with local urologic healthcare providers, enhances local practitioner expertise and independence which leads to long-term improvements in patient outcomes.

Long time IVUmed volunteer, Dr. Mike Metro, Director of Reconstructive Urology, Temple University Hospital will be the team leader for trip.  Joining him will be reconstructive urologists,  Dr. Eric Cho,  Dr. Jill Buckley,  Dr. Laura Horodyski, and Dr. Ramphis Morales- Lopez.  The team will be conducting lectures and training seminars to medical trainees and healthcare providers, as well as providing life altering surgeries and care to patients in need.  Our team will also be collaborating with our Mongolian urology colleagues on the proper diagnostic workup of urethral stricture disease and working with them on surgical indications for different stricture types.

Our IVUmed Reconstructive Urology Program has a long established relationship with our colleagues in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and the First Central Hospital of Mongolia, one of Mongolia’s biggest and busiest hospitals.  This year’s workshop marked the 26th in-person IVU workshop held in Mongolia since 2002

With experts like Dr. Metro and his team and partners like First Central Hospital of Mongolia our hope is to build healthcare capacity so that every person in Mongolia has access to quality urologic care. Your support will help us continue with our mission of closing the urologic health equity gap that exists worldwide.

International Volunteers in Urology (IVUmed) is a nonprofit with a 26-year history of closing the global urologic health equity gap by providing urologic medical care, education, training, and research mentorship to low resource areas globally.  We provide medical and surgical education to physicians and healthcare providers and medical treatment to thousands of children and adults.  Our mission is to make quality urological care available worldwide.
