Urologic Oncology Surgical Workshop in Hue, Vietnam

IVUmed in partnership with the Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy will be conducting a Urologic Oncology Surgical Workshop in Hue, Vietnam March 6-10, 2023 and we need your support!

Urologic Oncology training workshops are one of the most requested at IVUmed.  In Vietnam there are no uniform urologic cancer screening programs or awareness campaigns related to either bladder or prostate cancer, which often leads to delayed diagnosis and late stage presentation with very poor outcomes for these men. 

Team members for this workshop include Joseph Smith, Jr, MD, Professor of Urology, Vanderbilt University, Cory Hugen, MD, Associate Clinical Professor of Urology, City of Hope, and Rohan Bhalla, MD, IVUmed Resident Scholar from Vanderbilt University.  Our team will be working closely with long time IVUmed international partners Nhat Minh Nguyen, MD and Khanh Le Dinh from Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy.  The team will be conducting lectures and training seminars to medical trainees and healthcare providers, as well as providing lifesaving surgeries and care to those in need.

The lack of specialists trained to treat urologic cancers, has led IVUmed to begin a new initiative to provide specialized multidisciplinary training and education in all areas of urologic oncology.  With experts like Drs. Smith, Hugen and Bhalla and partners like Drs. Nguyen and Dinh our hope is to build healthcare capacity so that quality cancer care is available to everyone in their own communities.

Since our first IVUmed workshop to Vietnam in 2001, we have provided over $5,000,000 in medical services, trained over 200 healthcare providers and treated over 660 patients in Vietnam.
