My fondest memories of my trip to Ghana are of my interactions with the staff at the hospital. We taught each other about medicine, healthcare, but most importantly, about each other and our cultures. I remember one day getting asked what day I was born on. I replied “Wednesday, why do you ask?” From that day on I was called Kwaku – The Akan name given to male children born on Wednesday. Connecting with our hosts, is what make these trips beautiful.
