Our mission goes far beyond simply helping patients in need of urology care. We mentor and train local medical providers, leaving them capable of caring for their own patients. Without adequately trained doctors, some patients might never receive the care they need. With your help, we are increasing surgical capacity worldwide.
This week we have a team of volunteer doctors and nurses in Dakar, Senegal. They are conducting a pediatric urology workshop with partners at Hopital General de Grand Yoff. The collaboration between IVUmed volunteers and the Senegalese urologists began in 2009 and has gained momentum each year. The video below captures the relationships and success this mentoring has created. It highlights IVUmed Board Vice-Chair, Dr. Francis Schneck from Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, who once again is leading the team this week.
