IVUmed’s first fellow
Dr. Kristin Chrouser was IVUmed’s first fellow. She dedicated one year to international medical service for which she raised over $65,000 to support her efforts. She trained and worked with doctors in Nigeria, Namibia, South Africa, India, Ethiopia, Yemen and Mexico.
“My colleagues were inspiring,” she said of her time in Ethiopia. “They are dedicated Ethiopian and volunteer American surgeons who work hard not only to provide quality patient care but to teach the next generation of surgeons.”
Dr. Chrouser has been an IVUmed board member since 2004. She became involved with IVUmed when she went to India as a Traveling Resident Scholar. Of her service in Namibia, Dr. Chrouser states, “the smiles and often spontaneous ‘dances’ of joy that erupt when a woman leaves the hospital cured and dry make it all worthwhile”.
